U.S. Pat. No. 4,324,772 to Conn et al., discloses a process for producing tricalcium phosphate/hydroxyapatite in large volumes. The process comprises continuously charging to the first stage of a two stage reactor, a slurry of calcium oxide in water and a solution of phosphoric acid in water.
Dicalcium phosphate is the calcium phosphate with the formula CaHPO 4 and its dihydrate. The "di" prefix in the common name arises because the formation of the HPO 4 2 anion involves the removal of two protons from phosphoric acid, H 3 PO 4. It is also known as dibasic calcium phosphate or calcium monohydrogen phosphate.
The calcium salt may then be hydrolyzed to form a calcium alkali which may then be reacted with the phosphoric acid to produce dicalcium phosphate. Also, a method of producing monocalcium phosphate from calcium phosphate includes reacting the calcium phosphate with sulphuric acid to produce monocalcium phosphate.
