Ghana - the country
Ghana is located south of the Sahara, on the west coast of Africa. The country lies about 5° North of the Equator, on the Gulf von Guinea. Ghana shares borders with Togo in the east, Côte d'Ivoire in the west, and Burkina Faso in the north. The south is borderd by the Atlantic Ocean, the coastline stretching 539 km from east to west. The country has a total surface area of 238,537 km2. By comparison, the surface area of West Germany: 248,577 km2.
The climate is tropical. It is predominantly warm und dry or hot and humid, depending on the region, with an average temperature of 30°Celsius. The south experiences two rainy-seasons annually: March - June / August - September. Further north, the two seasons tend to merge.
Ghana has a population of about 20 Million. The nation's capital, Accra, lies on the coast and counts approximately 2 Millionen inhabitants.
